In his first year within the Erasmus Mundus EDISS programme, Bashir highlights a dynamic learning experience that extends well beyond traditional classroom boundaries. One of the most memorable aspects was the opportunity to travel across Finland for project-related activities, particularly during the Data-Intensive Engineering project, where presenting work in different locations combined academic learning with exploration.
Alongside his studies, active participation in campus sports and local teams fostered strong connections with the local community, contributing to both personal well-being and cultural integration. Academically, the programme enabled him to develop practical skills in machine learning engineering, including training models in parallel across multiple GPUs—an essential competence for modern AI applications.
His summer internship further strengthened this expertise by developing demand forecasting models for restaurants. The Winter School experience, featuring interaction with previous EDISS cohorts and a collaborative hackathon, reinforced the programme’s emphasis on peer learning, collaboration, and real-world impact.
