During his first year in the Erasmus Mundus EDISS programme, Alejandro experienced a rich combination of international exposure, research-driven learning, and a strong sense of community.
As part of his research internship, he worked on out-of-distribution detection methods to improve object recognition in both simulated and real images within maritime environments. In parallel, coursework projects introduced him to applied challenges in medical imaging, including cancer segmentation and the explainability of AI models.
Beyond academics, the programme fostered a supportive and multicultural community, with social initiatives such as the EDISS Secret Santa activity offering meaningful moments of connection during the holiday season away from home.
Reflecting on his experience, he encourages incoming students to stay close, support one another, and collaborate both academically and in everyday life—values that lie at the heart of the EDISS programme.
