Mariama Serafim de Oliveira – From Finland to Italy: advancing Software Architecture and AI

During her second year in the Erasmus Mundus EDISS programme, Mariama describes a formative academic and personal experience shaped by studying in Italy after her first year in Finland. Immersion in a new cultural environment — marked by different weather, social dynamics, and cuisine — broadened her perspective and enriched her international journey.

Academically, she emphasises the importance of actively engaging with professors, learning to ask questions and seek clarification as a key factor in her growth.

Benefiting from the University of L’Aquila’s strong focus on software architecture, she developed advanced skills in designing high-quality software and integrating intelligent systems into robust architectures.

Her thesis, conducted within the European MOZO project, investigated and compared large-language-model-based multi-agent frameworks, analysing their strengths and limitations in the context of AI-supported software development.

Contributing to a larger European research initiative proved highly motivating, reinforcing the value of rigorous, state-of-the-art approaches to intelligent software systems and professional software engineering.
